Now you can access the most relevant ASTM standards, governmental regulations, and referenced documents for environmental due diligence in one single place. Plus, you'll find powerful tools to help manage and share that information easily and use it more effectively, giving you the resources to perform more accurate and thorough environmental assessments in conformance with standards and regulations.
Developed by ASTM Committee E50 on Environmental Assessment, Risk Management, and Corrective Action, these standards continue to play a critical role in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, corrective action, and pollution prevention.
Access the most comprehensive and up-to-date compilation of environmental due diligence standards, including the new ASTM E2600-08 standard. ASTM issued E2600-08 entitled "Standard Practice for Assessment of Vapor Intrusion into Structures on Property Involved in Real Estate Transactions" in early 2008. The goal is to identify whether there is a potential for a vapor intrusion condition to exist. The stated purpose of the standard is to define “good commercial and customary practice” for real estate transactions in the United States for conducting vapor intrusion assessments for properties with, or in proximity to, contamination of soil and groundwater by certain volatile compounds.
E2600-08 specifies a relatively conservative four-tier screening process to identify whether a property has a vapor intrusion potential. The process is site-specific and requires collection of information about the specific property and neighboring properties. The four tiers are:
E1527 is still the primary standard addressing Phase I ESAs. ASTM intends that E-2600-08 may be used independently of E1527 or in conjunction with that standard. It is not intended to be a substitute for a Phase I environmental assessment under E1527.
